Milwaukee County Parks pools guide

As we all know, Wisconsin summer days can be scorching hot and humid. Hence, it's a good time to remind you that the Milwaukee County Parks System has a great selection of water-based recreational opportunities, including public pools, now open for the season.

Outdoor pools

The Milwaukee County pools are open seven days a week from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., with certain pool locations open Monday-Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Hales Corners, Jackson, Pelican Cove, Sheridan and Wilson Rec are open Mondays and Wednesdays for night swim, while Grobschmidt, Holler, McCarty and Washington are open Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wilson Park pool is also open from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. on weekdays for lap swim only, as well as from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays for its aqua Zumba class. All hours are weather permitting.

Hoyt Park/Tosa Pool has different hours and rates. It also has an attached beer garden/restaurant called The Landing.

Prices range from $3 for ages 3-11 to $4 ages 12 and up. A season pass is $30 (ages 12 and up) and $20 (11 and under). A comprehensive annual pass valid at any indoor or outdoor pool for 13 months (Cool Waters and Schulz Aquatic Center excluded) is $165 for ages 3-11; $258.50 for ages 12 and up.

Kids age 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Water parks

Open through Labor Day weekend, the Milwaukee County water parks are open seven days a week. Cool Waters is open everyday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. save for Mondays and Wednesdays, when the park is open until 8 p.m. Hours are the same for the David F. Schultz Aquatic Center, save for the park is open longer on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead. Pelican Cover is open daily from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. with extra 5:30-7:30 p.m. night sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays. Check here for special hours at Tosa Pool at Hoyt Park.

Prices for both Cool Waters and the David F. Schultz Aquatic Center are $7.75 (ages 12-59) and $6 (ages 3-11 or 60+) while night swim (Monday through Thursday after 6 p.m.) is $5. A season pass is $60 for an individual or $165 for a family of four ($35 for each additional child). For Pelican Cove, prices are the same as outdoor pool rates listed above. Water park locations:

  • Cool Waters: Located in Greenfield Park at 2028 S. 124th St., (414) 321-7530. Offers giant tube, water slides, interactive water toys and more.

  • David F. Schultz Aquatic Center: Located in Lincoln Park at 1301 W. Hampton Ave., (414) 257-7230. Features shallow pool area, multiple water slides, diving area and a lazy river.

  • Pelican Cove: Located in Kosciuszko Park at 2201 S. 7th St., (414) 384-2022. Water slides, interactive splash toys and more.

  • Tosa Pool at Hoyt Park: Located at 1800 N Swan Blvd, 414-302-9160. Large playset structure in shallow pool, water slides and interactive toys.

Indoor pools

Prices are $4 (12 and up) and $3 (under 12). A 12-admission pass punch card is $40 (12 and up) or $25 (11 and under), while a six-month pass is $137.50 (ages 12-59), $110 (60 and up) and $88 (11 and under).

Splash pads

Many Milwaukee County Parks feature splash pads, which are free and open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (save for the Wahl Park splash pad, which is only open until 3 p.m.) Air temperature must be 72 degrees and water temperature must be 66 degrees for the splash pads to open.
