The S/V Denis Sullivan isn't sailing this summer and needs your help.

S/V Denis Sullivan schooner, now 20, won't sail and needs your help

Sadly, these posts are coming fast and furious. Yet another institution is being hobbled by the coronavirus outbreak and shutdown.

While it celebrates its 20th season, the S/V Denis Sullivan replica three-masted wooden lake schooner won't host visitors and students and will have only a "bare minimum crew" on board to handle maintenance work this season.

According to a post on Facebook, which you can read in full below, "One of the worst things for a wooden vessel is to be neglected, but if we are unable generate funds from taking the public on sails and operating programs with our students and trainees, we are unable to pay crew to care for the vessel."

That's not exactly how Captain Tiffany Krihwan and her crew hoped to fete the 20th anniversary of the vessel's launch at Pier Wisconsin, which it continues to call home.

"It is with a heavy heart we announce that the S/V Denis Sullivan will not be sailing nor open to the public for the 2020 season."

The cost of maintaining the S/V Denis Sullivan runs to about $300,000 a year and, so, it needs your help to stay afloat.
