Fiserv Forum to host Badgers hockey and more with first Holiday Face-Off tourney
Fiserv Forum is going to be even cooler than usual this holiday season as the Milwaukee arena will drop the puck on the first-ever Holiday Face-Off, a two-day men's college hockey tournament featuring the Wisconsin Badgers, Clarkson, Arizona State and UConn duking it out on the ice on Dec. 28-29.
The inaugural tournament hopes to add its name to Milwaukee's notable history as a college hockey hub, which ranges from the Bradley Center hosting the men's Frozen Four finals in 1993, 1997 and 2006 – also the last time Wisconsin's mens hockey team won the national championship – to the former Downtown arena serving as the home for the Badger Hockey Showdown for more than a decade during the late '80s, 90s and early 2000s.
"We are proud to bring major college hockey to Fiserv Forum as we continue to offer a diverse list of events at the arena," said Fiserv Forum and Bucks President Peter Feigin, in a press release. "Milwaukee has a rich history of college hockey tournaments, and we look forward to continuing the tradition by hosting the Holiday Face-Off at Fiserv Forum into the future."
"Wisconsin hockey has great history in Milwaukee from the Badger Hockey Showdown and the NCAA championships at the Bradley Center," said Badgers hockey head coach Tony Granato, in the release. "It's been 15 years since we played in the city, so we are extremely excited to return. When we were approached to play in the tournament, it was an easy decision. Fiserv Forum is a beautiful building and Milwaukee is a great hockey town so we feel lucky. We're really looking forward to a great experience for our student-athletes and fans."
The official lineup of matchups has yet to be announced, but the semifinal games will take place on Monday night with the championship and third-place matches hosted the following night.
Whether for the entire tournament or just a single day, tickets for the Holiday Face-Off will go on sale to the public starting Thursday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at Fiserv Forum's website.
