Zisters to transform patio into Winter Wonderland, complete with cozy igloos

It's time for Dining Month, presented by Deer District and its spooky Halloween-themed alter ego, Fear District. Throughout the month of October, we'll be serving up fun and fascinating content about all things food. The signature dish, however, is our 2019 Best of Dining poll, who's winners we will dish out all month long. Get hungry, Milwaukee!

There's a chill in the air and Zisters, 13425 Watertown Plank Rd. in Elm Grove, is sprucing up their patio to make it a winter-long destination.

Plans include the addition of festive string lights, an outdoor fireplace and a Christmas tree along with eight heated private igloos, each of which will accommodate groups of up to eight guests.

"The patio will be themed a bit like candy cane lane," says co-owner Gabbie Zierath. "And when it snows, the patio will be just like our very own winter wonderland."

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 16, guests will be able to make reservations for the patio experience online, signing up for 90-minute slots (with first available slots on Nov. 15) in their own private igloo.

Each reservation comes complete with a drink package featuring options like champagne (or mimosas), red or white wine, Irish coffee, regular or spiked hot chocolate, cranberry mules or hot toddies in sufficient quantity to accommodate eight guests. A drink menu will also be available onsite for guests who'd like to order additional drinks during their visit.

While guests are encouraged to dine at Zisters either before or after their patio experience, snackable items — including vegetable platters, charcuterie boards and hot appetizers like buffalo chicken dip, artichoke dip, fondue, Swedish meatballs and DIY S'mores — can also be reserved, with payment due on the day of the reservation.

Guests must be 21 or older or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. All guests are asked to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to their reserved time.

Zierath says the igloos will be in operation November through February, or slightly longer if the weather warrants. Reservations, which can be made online at starting Oct. 16 are available Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
