A sure sign of summer: Jazz in the Park returns tonight
The East Town Association announced its lineup for the 28th Jazz in the Park summer music festival, which returns to Cathedral Square Park starting tonight through Aug. 29.
As usual, while jazz may get the top billing in the beloved festival's name, the lineup for the weekly concert event, hosted almost every Thursday night throughout the summer, offers a diverse collection of danceable music genres from across the globe – from blues, big band, folk, R&B, funk, reggae and, of course, jazz. This year emphasizes that even more with three special theme nights: two Jazz Goes Country evenings on July 25 and Aug. 22, sponsored by FM 106.1, as well as a Jazz DJ Night on Aug. 8.
Here is the smorgasbord of soulful sounds you can expect soaring out of Cathedral Square this summer – starting tonight:
May 30: Altered Five Blues Band
June 6: Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound
June 13: Bill Bonifas Electric Band
June 20: Radio Free Honduras
July 18: Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal
July 25: Drew Baldridge (Jazz Goes Country with FM 106.1)
Aug. 1: The Jimmy's
Aug. 8: Plaid Hawaii (Jazz DJ Night with Brew City Bass)
Aug. 15: The Claudettes
Aug. 22: Abby Anderson (Jazz Goes Country with FM 106.1)
Aug. 29: Eddie Butts Band
The music at Jazz in the Park runs from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday night – minus Thursdays during Summerfest in late June and early July – with each evening opening with happy hour drink specials from 5 to 6 p.m. Local food and drink vendors also surround the venue throughout the night in case you need to refuel after all the dancing.
