The Memorial Weekend Classic returns to Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove next weekend. The event will include the standard races as well as a free kids' carnival called "Leroy Butler Day at the Races" on Sunday. The carnival takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. and Butler will be there promoting his anti-bullying campaign.
"Sunday, Sunday, Sunday - and Saturday, too!" The Great Lakes Dragaway is one of the most well-known race tracks in the country. Started in 1955 by "Broadway" Bob Metzler, the one-quarter-mile drag strip continues today under the guidance of Randy Henning.
After a full day of racing in Union Grove on Saturday, a line of Favre jerseys will be strung behind the starting line. Then, Great Lakes Dragaway staff will set them aflame with a 300 mph jet car!
