I held one job in college, and it was probably the best one you could have: a loss prevention agent for a major retailer. I chased crack heads, tussled with gangsters and ruined many a prom night. Seriously. It's why I kept doing it as a part-time gig even after I started writing.


City living gets complicated

Three out of the last five weekends I have now been robbed. Not at gunpoint or anything. But my garage has been broken in to and they've made off with several items. The question, of course, is what to do short of moving to rural Waukesha County or farm house in Kenosha.

Milwaukee Police Chief Edward A. Flynn wrote a letter to the community sharing crime numbers from the first six months of 2011. There has been a continued drop in crime for the first half of this year as it has been every year since since 2007.

Good morning, shattered window

I was almost early to work this morning. That is, until I noticed that someone had shattered the driver's side window of my car, stealing my digital camera, radar detector and cheap sunglasses.

I’m a landlord. And, currently, a friend and I are also fixing up a home to “flip.” Most people -- including myself -- would consider this home to be in a pretty sketchy neighborhood. I can’t say where exactly, but my wife won’t let me work there alone.
