The Hop streetcar is still free

Despite some recent reports to the contrary, it is still free to ride The Hop streetcar, even after the system celebrates its first birthday today.

The Hop will provide expanded service during Doors Open MKE

The Hop will put an extra vehicle into service both days to accommodate the large crowds. On both Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29, a third vehicle will operate from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., providing service every 15 minutes.

Mayor unveils new renderings of Vel R. Phillips streetcar plaza

As part of a plan to extend The Hop streetcar up to the Wisconsin Center convention facility on Wisconsin Avenue (and then further north), Mayor Tom Barrett today officially announced a plan to build a streetcar plaza on the corner of North Vel R. Phillips and West Wisconsin Avenues.

Mayor Tom Barrett announces streetcar extensions plan

Today, Barrett announced that he's pushing for extensions up past the Fiserv Forum into Bronzeville, up to King Drive and North Avenue; another south on Milwaukee Street through the Third Ward and into the northern part of Walker's Point; and for an extension of the Ogden Avenue tracks up Prospect Avenue to Brady Street.
