Jose's Blue Sombrero opens today at 7615 W. State St. in Wauwatosa. But we were fortunate enough to get a peek at the new restaurant over the weekend during the venue's soft opening. And there's plenty to love about the newly renovated space.

The Faries-Rood-Yale tower house at 3011 W. State St. is perhaps the most distinctive and recognizable houses in the city. It just might also be the oldest, too. Come inside as we take a look around and climb the five-story tower, too.

Being a blue collar town, Milwaukee has been home to countless manufacturing and other industrial enterprises. Drive around town and in most every neighborhood you'll see evidence of businesses past and present. I'm always struck by the industrial buildings upon which architects put on a happy face in the form of a decorative facade.

Construction for the East State Street paving project (a project that was three years in the making) is expected to begin in the spring of 2010. The Public Safety committee approved it this morning.
