Driving past, the building that houses MPS' Alliance High School, 850 W. Walnut St., doesn't really look like much. But you get the sense that there's more than meets the eye at this place that looks, from the side that we can see from the street, sort of like a school and sort of like an industrial building. After years of wondering about it, I decided to find out more.

The idea of using a building design to erect more than one structure isn't unheard of. Recently, I had the chance to see inside some Racine schools designed by the same architect and built at the same time - 1855!! - and which, despite many changes over the years, still survive today.

Time flies when you're having fun. It seems like just yesterday that Milwaukee Public Schools did its last long-range facilities master plan, but that was 2011. Today, MPS announced a series of community meetings to kick off the next long-range facilities master plan.

Nearly 16% of Wisconsin districts seek revenue boost on Tuesday's ballot

According to the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, of 67 school referendums up for a vote on Tuesday, 25 find districts asking taxpayers to approve exceeding state-imposed revenue limits. Fourteen seek the right to temporarily exceed those limits and another 11 hope voters agree to exceed them permanently.

Today, I found myself driving past Bluemel's Garden Center, which is closed for the season, at 4930 W. Loomis Rd., and I couldn't resist the urge to stop and see the old South Division High School dome, which was built into the garden center's building.
