I think I may have invented a new holiday quaff a couple years ago. While I can't guarantee someone hadn't already come up with this, I discovered it for myself two years ago and just had to share. I reprise my 2011 post here in case you've got a container of egg nog sitting in the fridge.
Wisconsin is America's Dairyland and from thumb (Door County) to pinky (Gransburg), there are cheese makers, creameries and cheese shops across the state. Of course, the Internet is your friend in searching for places you can visit to buy fresh cheese and to see it made right before you eyes. But even more user-friendly is the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board's "A Traveler's Guide to America's Dairyland."
Love it or hate it, egg nog is a part of the holiday season. Mixed with booze or straight up -- or made into pancakes, we hear -- it's an awesome seasonal treat for some and a disgusting idea altogether for others. We decided that in the spirit of the season, we'd taste two Wisconsin-made egg nogs and pick our favorite.
