Though it will already be autumn by the time Milwaukee's premier surf guitar rockers The Exotics take the stage at Red Dot Tosa, 6715 W. North Ave., at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, it'll still be warm enough to go surfing out on Lake Michigan, should the spirit move you.

Trolley has been riding the power pop rails in Milwaukee since 1995, releasing a string of catchy, guitar-driven rock and roll records over the years. The group is back with a new 14-track disc, "Things That Shine and Glow," on its own Easter Records, that continues its tradition of jangly power pop but with a post-punk edge.

The Milwaukee air must have been ripe with the scent of salt water back in 1994, because when surf rock revivalist The Exotics emerged that year, the band was an instant hit. Ten years after releasing its debut disc, the reunited quartet returns with the release of "Lost Album."

As if local musicians like Chris Tishler, Rob McCuen and Paul Wall didn't have enough to do, the trio has reformed its band Animal Magnets for what may or may not be a one-off show this week with The Plexi 3 and Van Gloria at Points East Pub. The band -- which also includes Cliff Ulsberger and Joel Beskow -- plays Saturday, June 13.
