Move over, microbreweries. Steve Johnson and Maria Milano, owners of Parallel 44 and Door 44 wineries, represent the new generation of Wisconsin farmers. People said they were crazy to start a vineyard in the Badger State, but with Parallel 44's recent awards and the designation of the Wisconsin Ledge AVA, wine in Wisconsin is making more and more sense.

The upper Midwest doesn't often come to mind first when discussing the most geologically significant regions of the United States or North America. Few geological features of North America are as impressive or as influential as the Niagara Escarpment, which runs along the eastern portion of Wisconsin.
