Blau wants his "Polka Heartland" exhibit to be a feeling experience

Dick Blau's insightful look into culturally rich polka music and dance - "Polka Heartland" - is currently on view at the Museum of Wisconsin Art. Following the 1992 book "Polka Happiness," which he had a hand in developing, the exhibit demolishes the false stereotype of polka being a dated art from. Instead, each of the 30 photographs on displays capture the ambience and energy of polka performances from around the state.


MOWA announces first winner of Artist-in-Residence Program

This afternoon, the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) - in partnership with Ansay Development Corporation - announced Milwaukee artist Lois Bielefeld as the first winner of its Artist-in-Residence Program in Luxembourg, the first opportunity of its kind offered through MOWA for Wisconsin artists.

The Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) received two prestigious building awards within the last two weeks: a 2014 Honor Award for Design Excellence from AIA Wisconsin and a Top Project of 2013 Award from The Daily Reporter.


Despite rural focus, Wagner captured Bay View's urban rise in mural series

Bay View was only an independent municipality for less than a decade, but well over a century after its annexation by the city of Milwaukee in 1887, the neighborhood still feels like a village. And perhaps nothing captures that spirit more than the paintings of Bay View by Milwaukee-born artist Ferd Wagner - whose passion for painting the outdoors endured for his entire life - that adorn the auditorium of the 1922 Bay View High School.
