Petition seeks support for keeping Lake Park's Ravine Road open to all

The Ravine Road - which snakes through Lake Park from up where Newberry Boulevard meets the park down to Lincoln Memorial Drive - has been closed for years while Milwaukee County has figured out what to do about the endangered Ferry & Clas-designed bridge that spans it. A petition seeks to ensure that it is ultimately reopened.

Heavy winds down a landmark Lake Park tree

Driving around Milwaukee on Sunday morning, there were a lot of tree branches, large and small, to be seen, victims of heavy winds the day before, when our first snowflakes appeared, too. The worst victim I've heard about so far was along the path in Lake Park that runs along Lake Drive on the upper East Side.

On Wednesday night, the Travel Channel will air an episode of its series "Expedition Unknown" that was filmed in part in Milwaukee. In the episode, host Josh Gates attempts to unearth the unsolved mystery of Byron Preiss' cult puzzle book "The Secret," published in 1982.

North Point Lighthouse is putting on a fresh face

North Point Lighthouse is receiving a facelift with its first complete house and tower painting since it was restored over 10 years ago. The $23,500 project includes cleaning, repairing and replacing wood and materials where needed, and painting the keeper's quarters museum and the lighthouse tower.

Important meeting set to discuss the future of Lake Park Bridge

A public information meeting on the future of the Ferry & Clas-designed Lake Park Ravine Road footbridge has been set for Tuesday, July 19 at 5 p.m. in the meeting room beneath Lake Park Bistro. Testimony will be heard from the community.
