The hard-won contract extension for locally owned Juneau Park Paddleboats has been reversed, and an out-of-state company will take its place in Veterans Park. Why? Apparently, despite public support, the owners were trying to sell their business to the competition.

Juneau Park Paddleboats today informed OnMilwaukee.com of new developments in their pursuit of an appeal to save their business.
Tim and Val Ritter report that, after 16 years, they have lost their contract with the Milwaukee Parks Department. They have to dismantle their shed and remove all equipment by April 18. Juneau Park Paddleboats will be replaced at the lagoon by California-based Wheel Fun Rentals, a franchise which operates close to 100 locations around the country.
Tim and Val Ritter started Juneau Park Paddleboats two decades ago and, thanks to the popularity of "staycations" and low rental fees, the business continues to thrive in a sometimes challenging economy.
