Walnut Way founders will break ground on Lindsay Heights project

Sharon and Larry Adams - who founded Walnut Way and are still on its board - host what they're calling a Groundswell Celebration to kick off construction of Adams Garden Park, which includes the renovation of an entire block at 1836 W. Sherman Park business incubator project nears fundraising goal

After the BMO Harris Bank branch in Sherman Park was burned during unrest in 2016, it was announced the building would become Sherman Phoenix, a wellness incubator spearheaded by entrepreneur Joanne Johnson-Sabir and developer Juli Kaufmann. The project is getting closer to becoming a reality.

BMO Harris Bank's new Sherman Park branch opens

Seems like just yesterday we squeezed under a tent to celebrate the groundbreaking on a new BMO Harris Bank branch in Sherman Park to replace the old one, which had been damaged in unrest the previous summer. Now, the "smart" branch is open and the wellness incubator is moving forward.

In November, we reported plans to revive the historic Wally Schmidt tavern, located on Fond du Lac Avenue in the Lindsay Heights Neighborhood. Since then we've learned that a local chef has signed on to operate the restaurant, slated to open in fall.

Last year, developer / green entrepreneur / sustainable Milwaukee advocate Juli Kaufmann was honored with the Milwaukee Business Journal's Women of Influence award. This year, she served as the keynote speaker and delivered a speech that people will be talking about for a long time. And not just because it rhymed.
