At 4 p.m. today, Finn McGoo's opened at 10365 N. Cedarburg Rd. in Mequon in the former Taylor & Dunn's space. It was a promise fulfilled for owner and musician Finbar McCarthy who promised his now-deceased friend "McGoo" two years ago that he would open a pub in his honor.

When the iconic Derry Hegarty's Irish Pub, 5328 W. Blue Mound Rd., went up for sale, Sean Burke knew it was a good fit for him. Burke's Irish Castle, a modern Irish gastropub still rooted in a Milwaukee tradition, will celebrate a grand opening the weekend of Sept. 14-16.


Tuesday boozeday

I'm not sure why, but Tuesday was feeling a bit too much like Friday. That or maybe I just live life like it's spring break (so I've been told). Either way, Tuesday evening worked out as my only night off this week and I was more than ready for an adult beverage. This particular Tuesday happened to be a bit special as my brother was in town for a few days before an 11-month deployment.
