Grihalva's invaluable book chronicles Milwaukee jazz through photographs

In "Images of America: Milwaukee Jazz," out now in paperback from Arcadia Publishing, Joey Grihalva tells the story of jazz in Milwaukee from the 1920s to today via a variety of photographs. In advance of his first event for the book, we asked him about the challenges of writing it.

Duo works to promote Milwaukee's Chinese history

Although the city is dotted with Chinese restaurants and we were happy to welcome YI Jinlian to the Bucks -- however briefly - Chinese-Americans in Milwaukee seem to have a pretty low profile. "Chinese Milwaukee" ($19.99), by David B. Holmes and Wenbin Yuan, the co-founders of the Wauwatosa-based Milwaukee Chinese Historical Society, just might help change that.


Widen brings old Milwaukee entertainment to life

Larry Widen, who runs The Times Cinema and the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse and co-authored "Milwaukee Movie Palaces" (reprinted last year as "Silver Screens"), has published "Entertainment in Early Milwaukee."
