The cooperative grocer has begun an extensive $1.2 million remodel and expansion of its Wauwatosa store, one of the first commercial buildings in Wisconsin constructed using sustainable design practices.

The State Assembly passed a bill today that woujld legalize the sampling of spirirts in grocery and liquor stores. Guy Rehorst - owner of Great Lakes Distillery - has lobbied for this change for four years. "As distillers, we're not asking for preferential treatment, just a level playing field with beer and wine producers," he says.

Currently, there are 13 Woodman's in Wisconsin and Illinois. Milwaukee-area shoppers are probably most familiar with the location in Oak Creek, which opened in 2008, or the Menomonee Falls' Woodman's. According to Clint Woodman, a Waukesha location will open next year.

Pete's Fruit Market opened last week at 1400 S. Union St., on the corner of 17th Street and Greenfield Avenue. The soft opening took place on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and a grand opening celebration will be announced soon.
