Some bars just have perfect names. One of the best in Milwaukee is Woody's at 1579 S. 2nd St., in the Clock Tower Acres neighborhood at the southern edge of Walker's Point. Anyone who walks in and sees the vintage bar top that's been in place for surely well over a half a century will agree. It's enough to make a grown tippler blush.

David Kotke has spent nearly 40 years in the service industry, developing a caring, affable and sassy style with customers. He's also lived a "colorful" life, competing in national male beauty pageants as Mr. Gay Wisconsin. Now he's the bar manager at Hudson Business Lounge, calling it a "fun journey."


Milwaukee's magnificent Mint Bar lit the LGBTQ beacon

During the great Downtown reinvention of the '80s, dozens of buildings disappeared from the heart of Milwaukee. One year, the Mint Bar vanished too. 31 years after its demolition, there's no evidence the Mint Bar even existed. And that's a damn shame.
