The old Motherhouse complex, dating as far back as 1861, at the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in St. Francis is about to be torn down. We went over for one last look ... and a final walk through the tunnels.

Recently, St. Ben's announced that it would renovate the former St. Anthony's Hospital, 1004 N. 10th St., into supportive housing for the homeless. Soon after, a fire broke out. Before this weekend's benefit concert for the project at Turner Hall, we went inside to see the old hospital.

A big fan of behind the scenes visits, I've traversed catwalks soaring high over concert stages, descended into the basements of schools and gone pretty much anywhere folks with keys will let me go. But the trip to the top of the dome of the Basilica of St. Josaphat on 6th and Lincoln was a journey unlike any I've taken before.

By now, most everyone knows that The Basilica of St. Josaphat, 2333 S. 6th St., was constructed from building materials salvaged when the Chicago Customs House and Post Office was demolished in 1896. But here are a few things you likely didn't know.
