In the "Backspin" podcast, hip-hop expert and DJ Tyrone Miller and 88Nine Music Director Justin Barney dig deep into the roots of Milwaukee hip-hop to identify the first-ever Brew City rap song pressed into wax. Several months ago DJ Tyrone Miller, better known as DJ Bizzon, decided to take his Takeover platform to the stage in the form of an emcee battle that called all lyric-spitting rappers to test their skills in a freestyle competition. This Friday DJ Bizzon is holding the finals of his Takeover Freestyle Battle series at Stonefly Brewery.

The Miltown Beat Down has arguably become Milwaukee's best known and most reputable hip-hop event through the universal appeal and intrigue people have with hip-hop and electronic production. For six years now the hip-hop scene and the independent music culture in Milwaukee have enjoyed the event, which is now set to have its 2011 finals this Friday at Turner Hall.
