The proposal selected last summer by the City of Milwaukee for the redevelopment of the former Schlitz tied house - long known as Humboldt Gardens, Mint Lounge and Zak's - at 2249 N. Humboldt Ave. is (potentially) moving forward, albeit slowly.

A plan to renovate and reopen the former Grand Theater, at 2917-23 N. Holton Ave. took a step forward on Tuesday as the Common Council's Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development committee recommended approval of the project.

Recently, a number of surplus Milwaukee Public Schools properties were posted for sale for adaptive re-use. We'd already been in three of them, so we popped into another to see what's going on in one more: the former Holton Street State Bank, built in 1927.
