CHIEF drops new single in advance of concept album, "The Galleon"

Published April 30, 2020

If there ever was a time for a power-rocking concept album about a mysterious ship helmed by a frightening being ... Milwaukee's CHIEF, a trio led by Chris Tishler, thinks that time is now. And on Friday, the band drops the first single from the 15-song album, "The Galleon." "For Those Who Live A Light" will be released on Bandcamp, with the full-length double album coming June 20.

Catching up with Chief

Published Dec. 8, 2016

Every few years, we remind you about Chief, the hard-rocking Milwaukee band that you should check out. Why? Not because frontman Chris Tischler compares Chief to Van Halen and Judas Priest, although that's a pretty good reason to give them a listen, since they're excellent musicians.

Hard rockers Chief launch the CD that almost never was

WAMI board president Zoy Begos lauded Milwaukee trio Chief as "the perfect intersection where rock meets heavy metal." For me, Chief is the living, breathing, Milwaukee spirit of Thin Lizzy: heavy guitars and a pounding rhythm section, but with good songs constructed around melodies. Asked frontman Chris Tischler about the band that almost ceased to be, the music that vanished into the ether and the perhaps miraculous new CD.

Farewell to the Chief?

It's been two years since we caught up with Milwaukee's own rawk rawyalty, namely Chief - a band I like to compare to Thin Lizzy but which frontman Chris Tischler has likened to Van Halen, UFO and Judas Priest. The media silence is mostly because the trio - comprising hard working Brew City music scene stalwarts Dave Benton on bass, Matt Liban on drums and singer and guitarist Tishler - has been on hiatus, keeping itself silent, too.

Enemy Star debuts with a CD already complete

Published Aug. 28, 2010

Although it started out as the baby of guitarist Paris Ortiz, Enemy Star soon morphed into a band. And that's OK with Ortiz, who is a veteran of bands The Cocksmiths, Big Dumb Dick and Psychedelicasi. What changed everything for him was hearing Kassy Gruszkowski sing.

For those of you that want to rock...salute the Chief!

A hard-rockin', three-piece rock and roll outfit, Chief got together about three years ago when guitarist Chris Tischler and drummer Matt Liban -- who have been in numerous local bands over the years -- joined bassist Dave Benton and sort of unwittingly became a band. Chief celebrates a new EP with a CD release gig Friday, Jan. 23 at Frank's Power Plant in Bay View.
