Legacy Lofts will transform old Blommer Ice Cream factory into apartments

Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II will host a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 8 at for the new Legacy Lofts project, 1500 W. North Ave. The former Blommer Ice Cream factory - and an adjacent lot - will be transformed into 64 units of mixed-income housing and retail.

Urban Spelunking: Prospect Mall renovation

A plan emerged last year to bring new life to the Prospect Mall on the East Side. Developer Robert Joseph is tearing the building - erected in 1912 as a Pierce-Arrow automobile dealership - down to the bones to create first floor retail and parking, with a four-story residential tower perched diagonally on the roof. We got a peek inside yesterday.

After I did it a couple of months ago, I had a lot of people who I met on the street tell me how much they appreciated my "Milwaukee people who should be famous" column. As I am always interested in making people happy (insert laughter here) here comes "They should be famous, Part II." And again, this list is not comprehensive. It's just a few people who should be getting more fame than they've gotten. Some I know, some I don't.
