In anticipation of the annual Earth Day observance/celebration, which takes place each April 22, Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ReStore hosts its ninth annual Recycled Art Contest, with 116 recycled and repurposed works in what is surely the city's most eco-minded annual art show.

Gallery night offers two more chances to get loose with Springsteen

Gallery Night spotlight: Material Studio + Gallery

Earlier this month, Melissa Dorn Richards and Pamela Anderson transformed the top floor of the Marshall Building, 207 E. Buffalo St., and introduced Milwaukee to Material Studio + Gallery. The 6,900-square foot space formerly housed Plaid Tuba. Material will be open to the public on both Gallery Night and Day, July 24-25.

Bay View Gallery Night spotlight: Nina Bednarski and John Kowalczyk

More than 45 local businesses and hundreds of local artists will participate in Bay View Gallery Night on Friday, June 5. Orange Gallery will celebrate its first gallery night with a grand opening party featuring DJ Malcolm Michiles and art from a variety of artists, including Nina Bednarski and John Kowalczyk.

Var mixes art, music, comedy, community and cocktails

Last month, Var Gallery and Studios opened at 643 S. 2nd St. in a former aluminum foundry that had been empty for a couple of years. The gallery, artists' collective and bar showcases art shows, acoustic live music, comedy performances, workshops, open figure drawing, talk sessions, social gatherings and more.

Art Is For Lovers provides a positive space for artists

Karl Reeves has dedicated his life to art. He didn't focus on art until four years ago, when he started skateboarding and was introduced to a new, worldwide community of skaters and artists. At the end of last year, Reeves opened Art Is For Lovers, a spacious art gallery and performance space at 2228 N. Martin Luther King Dr. that covers 1,600 square feet and four adjoining rooms.

Translator to exhibit photo essay on adoption

Doug Johnson will have his first gallery show, called "Adoption At A Glance," on Gallery Night next month. The exhibit visually tells the challenging but rewarding story of adoption through Johnson's lens. The show will include 20-30 photos in black-and-white, color and sepia depicting the everyday life of the twins.
