$7 lunch challenge
Grabbing a quick lunch can be a challenge on its own, but grabbing a quick lunch that tastes good and is affordable is even harder. Luckily I found what I was looking for at The Dogg Haus on Water Street.
My Office, a beloved hidden gem and unabashed Downtown dive bar, is known first for its booze and second for its breakfast. But between the morning crowd fueling up for the day and the early-morning crowd winding down a night out, the establishment serves a quick, easy and very good lunch.
It's legal, I asked. Not kidding. When I order this $4.99 meal from the good people at the West Allis Cheese & Sausage Shoppe at the Milwaukee Public Market I usually preface it with, "is it legal for me to order off the kids menu?"
Feel free to argue, but I contend Real Chili is the best chili in America. And it's still pretty cheap. You can get a bowl of chili with one 75-cent topping for under $7, but a soda will push you over.
I love the ritual of holing up with a steaming bowl of soup and some great bread and warming my soul from the inside out. And typically, a bowl of soup - even the delicious housemade variety - won't break the bank. Such is the case at Soup House.
The taco plate at Margarita Paradise is a tasty deal for $5 - and an even tastier deal when you add another taco for $7.
Fast, cheap and good. It really can be done at this pizza-by-the-slice place on Old World 3rd Street.
Heading to a Downtown Milwaukee lunch can be a delicious treat - and a hit to your wallet. We challenged ourselves to recommend some of our favorite picks in the area at $7 or less.
