Hard-working Cudahy, a southern suburb of Milwaukee, grew up in the shadow of industry and that working class spirit survives today in rows of well-kept houses. Access to the lake and a lot of lakefront parkland make Cudahy a place for outdoor fun, too.

Tradition runs deep in Cudahy and the Pulaski Hall that was built there, at 3900 E. Pulaski Ave., in 1905 not only still stands, it's still operating. And it still bears the name of the "Father of the American cavalry," Kazimierz Pulaski.

It may seem curious to us now, but at the height of the Cold War, the Milwaukee area was ringed with defensive missile sites. One was in Cudahy, where three of the installation's buildings still stand and are currently home to the Kelly Senior Center.

Last July, The Metal Grill in Cudahy went cold, but there's new activity heating up at the former beloved rock bar: a DIY-oriented music, arts and entertainment venue, as well as a mini-arcade, in the space, located at 5036 S. Packard Ave.
