Ben Butler

April 12, 2019 7:30 p.m. - April 28, 2019, 9:30 p.m.

Major General Benjamin Butler had been a defense attorney in Boston - until the Civil War began. Now he is in command of Fort Monroe, in southern Virginia, and the law of the United States says that the escaped slave who has demanded to see him must be returned to his owner. But this extremely singular individual - one Shepard Mallory - makes quite a powerful case for himself. Richard Strand's splendid play, a battle of wits for the soul of a nation, defies simple characterization - part comedy, part historical drama, part biography, and often all at the same time! This is a Midwest premiere directed by Michael Cotey and featuring Drew Brhel, Rasell Holt, David Sapiro, Chase Stoeger. Tickets range from $15 to $40 in Cabot Theatre. Discounts are available for students, seniors, groups of 10 or more, and rush tickets. Performances run every Wednesday through Sunday. Matinees are on Wednesdays (April 17th and 24th), Saturdays (April 20th and 27th), and Sundays (April 14th and 28th). Performances beginning at 8PM run on Saturdays and 7:30 performances run every Wednesday through Friday. There will be no performances on Easter Sunday.
