True Evel: The Amazing Story of Evel Knievel

Celebrate the life of the World’s Greatest Daredevil through an exclusive, first-of-its-kind exhibition. “True Evel: The Amazing Story of Evel Knievel” tells the story of Evel Knievel through fascinating artifacts drawn from both the Harley-Davidson Archives and the Knievel family collection. Visitors will see legendary pieces including Evel’s signature leathers and cane, personal photographs and letters, collectors’ toys and memorabilia and the half-motorcycle, half-rocket “Skycycle” Evel used to jump the Snake River Canyon.

Venue Description:
The Harley-Davidson Museum opened in July 2008. It is a contemporary building just off the river in downtown Milwaukee that covers 20 acres of land. The outdoor area is free to the public and open 24 hours a day. The indoor Museum has bikes dating back to the early 1900s and other pop culture favorites, such as the motorcycle Elvis Presley purchased days before he became famous with the hit single, Heartbreak Hotel. Families with children can tailor their visit with the Road Pack program. The Road Pack is available for families to "check out" at the start of the tour and includes tips to help families make the most of their visit. This backpack includes four activities for parents and kids to complete while exploring the Museum exhibits including a motorcycle scavenger hunt. Along with the Museum exhibits and archives visitors can visit the gift shop, caf, Cafe Racer, and bar/restaurant. Motor, the Museum restaurant, features the best of Wisconsin on its menu including local cheeses, sausages and beers. Rates: Adults $16, Children (5-17 years) $10 and Children (under 5) are free. Additional discounts are available for military, students and seniors. Hours: May-October, Monday & Wednesday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; weekends 9 a.m.-6 p.m. November-April, weekdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; weekends 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Located off I-94 in the Menonomee Valley, you'll find the Museum at the crossroads of 6th and Canal Streets.

Somehow, Molly Snyder and her two school-aged boys never made it to the Harley-Davidson Museum until last week when they went to check out the new Evel Knievel exhibit. From the moment they pulled into the parking lot, it was captivating for the boys, and Snyder wondered why she hadn't made a break for it sooner.
