As Pope Francis travels in the U.S., Time Warner Cable has launched a special cable channel to air more of the global church leader’s events this week.
"Pope Francis’s visit is one of the most important events in the United States this year," said Steve Paulus, senior vice president of news and local programming for Time Warner Cable, in a statement. "As part of our dedication to our community and Time Warner Cable customers, we’re proud to cover all aspects of the trip that promise to be of significance to our viewers."
The coverage on channel 199 started over the weekend with the Pope’s trip and Mass in Havana, Cuba. The cable outlet will share more from Cuba and in the U.S., and we here in Milwaukee will be able to see former Archbishop and current Cardinal Timothy Dolan with a special broadcast from New York on Thursday.
More events to come include:
- Tuesday: Mass in the Minor Basilica of the Shrine of Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre, Farewell ceremony at Santiago de Cuba’s International Airport
- Wednesday: Official welcome ceremony and meeting with President Obama at the White House
- Thursday: Address to joint session of Congress and service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City
- Friday: United Nations General Assembly Address, a multi-faith event at the World Trade Center Site and Mass at Madison Square Garden
- Saturday: Mass at Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Philadelphia, an address at Independence Mall and a visit to the Festival of Families
- Sunday: Papal meeting with bishops from World Meeting of Families at St. Martin’s Chapel, Mass on the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia and the Pope’s departure for Rome
During the week, the Papal Visit Channel will air "The Call," a live news call-in show telecast from New York. Viewers can call in to discuss issues on the program that will run throughout the day. Also, a nightly recap program will air at 9 p.m. and encore presentations will air during the off hours while the Pope is in the U.S.
On Demand channel 1020 also features a "Papal Visit 2015" category with religious documentaries, films and other reports.

To cap off a night of Halloween fun, try out these two home entertainment releases for a final scare or two. For the younger crowd, give "R.L. Stine's Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls" a try. However, for a final Halloween cinematic creep-out more for the adults in the house, the thriller "Extinction" might be worth scaring up from VOD or a DVD rental spot.

When lighting, textures and scenery pop on a screen - especially in a familiar tale that we've envisioned ourselves - we can be transported. In the case of Disney's "Cinderella," we feel like we are there, interacting with the characters at the royal ball, waiting for the clock to strike 12 times.

We have to wait several more months before "The Force Awakens" unleashes itself upon the world, likely nabbing pretty much every box office record in the galaxy in the process. In the meantime, there's plenty of "Star Wars" related home entertainment - "LEGO Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles" and season one of "Star Wars Rebels" - to keep our spare time engrossed in the universe.

There's plenty right with the music made before 1972, but there's a lot wrong with the rights of music from that time, as multiple court cases involving music rights have become news.
