Turn it up for Burning Sons

While it may seem out of character for me to heartily endorse a hardcore, punk/metal band, let me explain.

I've seen Milwaukee's Burning Sons play live; my friend, Dan DuChaine, plays drums; and this genre of music mostly takes me back to the days when I dabbled as a casual fan of bands like Black Flag. If you're into this kind of loud, furiously fast guitar shredding ... well, Burning Sons is pretty good.

Still, interviewing DuChaine for his upcoming gig Friday night at the Monkey Bar (a venue I heartily endorse), I can't write knowledgeably enough about this band and its influences to convince any kind of real connoisseur to come out to the gig.

Instead, I'll instruct you to spend four minutes of your life listening to this podcast of my conversation with DuChaine; he does a much better job of explaining the story behind Burning Sons.

In the podcast (click on the link above), he explains what the gig will be like, and why it's a hell of a bargain to spend $7 for the cover, though that part I actually understand: in addition to a turn-it-up-to-11, high-energy show, you also get a copy of Burning Sons' "Masquerade" EP on vinyl.

Yes, vinyl, and DuChaine has a good reason for that, too.

The show is at 9 p.m. at the bar, 1619 S. 1st St., and includes performances for Drugs Dragons, Reckless Reasons and Wing Attack.

Bottom line: if you wouldn't mind blowing off a little steam this Friday, you're going to enjoy this show. Check it out. Whether or not you bring earplugs is up to you.
