Summerfest announces The Weeknd as its final 2018 headliner

Fans of The Weeknd got a nice surprise last week when the hip-hop and R&B superstar announced a brand new, Selena Gomez-sadness-induced EP – and then released it just three days later. And the good news hasn't stopped there, as this morning Summerfest announced The Weeknd as its final headlining act, hitting the American Family Insurance Amphitheater on July 7 – fittingly, a Saturday.

After spending several years building an impressive resume of mixtapes – as well as working with the likes of Sia and Drake, and contributing to the ballyhooed soundtracks to "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "Fifty Shades of Grey" – The Weeknd rose to fame with his 2015 breakthrough second album, "Beauty Behind the Madness."

He's delivered an almost constant stream of hits ever since including "The Hills," "Can't Feel My Face," "Starboy," "I Feel It Coming" and, most recently, teaming up with Kendrick Lamar for "Pray for Me" from the "Black Panther" soundtrack. In the process, he's also won three Grammys – most recently Best Urban Contemporary Album in January for "Starboy."

Tickets for the show will go on sale starting Saturday, April 7, at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at both Summerfest's website and Ticketmaster, as well as in person at the Summerfest box office, Ticketmaster ticket centers and select Walmart stores, and over the phone at either (800) 745-3000 (for a live Ticketmaster agent) or (866) 448-7849 (for the Ticketmaster Express automated phone line).

With today's announcement, Summerfest's main stage lineup is officially complete. Your Big Gig headliners are:

  • June 27: Imagine Dragons
  • June 28: James Taylor & Bonnie Raitt
  • June 29: Halsey & Logic
  • June 30: Florida Georgia Line
  • July 1: Dave Matthews Band
  • July 3: J. Cole
  • July 4: Journey & Def Leppard
  • July 5: Shawn Mendes
  • July 6: Blake Shelton
  • July 7: The Weeknd
  • July 8: Arcade Fire

There's one big part still missing, however: the grounds stage headliners. So stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more updates as they are announced.
