Kesha will perform at Pantherfest later this summer.

Kesha will headline Pantherfest 2019 in September

I know the school year is coming to a close for UW-Milwaukee students, and the last thing they want to think about is coming back to class this fall. But here's an announcement to make it better: Pop star Kesha will headline Pantherfest, the school's annual celebration of the start of the academic year, at the BMO Harris Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 6.

The headliner announcement came out this afternoon in a video posted to UW-Milwaukee's official Facebook page. Recent Pantherfest lead acts include Khalid; Kyle, Kiiara and MisterWives; Jason Derulo and Bishop Briggs.

Kesha last performed in Milwaukee last summer at the Big Gig, at a Miller Lite Oasis headliner show I reviewed and called "a dirty free-for-all – and it was glorious." Let's see what else I said:

"It rained f*cks, sh*ts and middle fingers throughout the night. It rained clothes – from T-shrts to bras and even pants. ("They're so wet," Kesha discovered. "F*ck yeah!") It rained beer, spit and spitty beer. It rained confetti and, of course, glitter. (Two new friends hit me with a glitter bomb before the show, turning me into a disco ball on two legs. I'm sure to be finding glitter still two years from now. Glitter: It never goes away. As Demetri Martin said, it's the herpes of the arts and crafts world.)

"And, as Mother Nature driving this tempest, Kesha reigned. She reigned totally triumphant over her sweaty, sloppy, steamy and increasingly less-clothed audience – and it seemed like she wouldn't want her kingdom any other way."

Seems about the right way to ring in a new year at college!

Best of all, the event – running from 7 to 11 p.m. – is at the perfect price point for poor undergrads: free. Yes, UWM students get a free admission ticket with a valid university ID. As for more information on the show and Pantherfest, visit UWM's website.
