Jazz in the Park announces its 2018 lineup
The East Town Association this week announced its lineup for the 27th Jazz in the Park summer music festival, which returns to Cathedral Square Park from May 31 until Aug. 30.
As usual, while jazz may get the top billing in the beloved festival's name, the lineup for the weekly concert event offers a diverse collection of danceable music genres from across the globe – from funk to the Cuban-born charanga to brass band to soul to roots reggae to Latin music to bluesy Americana classics and, of course, jazz.
Here are the soulful sounds you can expect soaring out of Cathedral Square this summer:
May 31: Jazz Orgy
June 7: Charanga Agoza
June 14: Hot & Dirty Brass Band
June 21: The People Brothers Band
June 28: We Six
July 5: Sweet Sheiks
July 12-15: Bastille Days (no Jazz in the Park)
July 19: Jay Edward Blues Band
July 26: The Right Now
Aug. 2: Cache MKE
Aug. 9: Mike Mangione & The Kin
Aug. 16: Steez
Aug. 23: Unity
Aug. 30: Chicago Tribute Anthology
Jazz in the Park runs from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday night, with each evening starting with happy hour drink specials from 5 to 6 p.m. Local food and drink vendors also surround the venue throughout the night in case you need to refuel after all the dancing; a full list is expected to be announced on the East Town Association's website in May.
