In Movies & TV

From old favorites to new hits, Netflix's June offerings should keep you busy (and home).

What's new on Netflix in June 2020

Netflix's admirable efforts to keep people inside, healthy and social distanced with an avalanche of movies and television continues on – or at least that's what I'm going to take from the Big Red Streaming Monolith's list of new arrivals for June, which is packed with a ton of exciting stuff to last you hopefully at least another month.

For those harkening back to the days when people could go out in public, there's nostalgic '90s favorites like "Twister" and "Clueless." For those catching up on Oscar winners and nominees, there's old greats ("West Side Story") along with new honorees ("The Help," "Lady Bird," "Frost/Nixon"). For those wanting to watch masters at work, there's several auteurs getting added to Netflix's library – little known names such as Spike Lee ("Inside Man"), Steven Spielberg ("E.T."), David Fincher ("Zodiac"), Martin Scorsese ("Cape Fear") and Paul Verhoeven ("Starship Troopers"). And for viewers who want something from all three of those categories, "The Silence of the Lambs" will be available next month too. You can even make a feast of America's favorite cannibal by following up the Best Picture winner with all three seasons of NBC's ultra-violent and ultra-stylish TV adaptation "Hannibal." You'll have to bring your own fava beans and chianti, though.

That's all before I bring up the Netflix Originals for next month, which include some of the streaming service's biggest TV names: "Queer Eye," "13 Reasons Why" and the mercifully final season of "Fuller House." I mentioned Spike Lee above, and I'll mention him again as he'll attempt to follow-up his Oscar-winning hit "BlacKkKlansman" with the star-studded Vietnam War drama "Da 5 Bloods." And on the complete other side of the tonal spectrum, Will Ferrell will release a new comedy with Rachel McAdams about the Eurovision song contest.

But perhaps most exciting of all? There's a new competition show coming out called "Floor is Lava" that's exactly what it sounds like – and what it sounds like is genius. Hopefully it's great – and hopefully it succeeds, opening the door for my game show pitch centered on Red Rover.

We'll find out when it arrives on June 19. Until then, here's the rest of next month's new arrivals on Netflix.
