Milwaukee cupcake guide

Note: The contents of this guide were checked for accuracy when this article was updated on Jan. 27, 2018 at 5:16 p.m. We continually update the thousands of articles on OnMilwaukee.com, but it's possible some details, specials and offers may have changed. As always, we recommend you call first if you have specific questions for the businesses mentioned in the guide.

Whether your wedding is right around the corner, or down the road, The Corners has just what you need to make your day extra special!

Is there anything more deliciously versatile than the cupcake? It's a go-to dessert for kids' birthday parties, but it can also be the perfect offering at an elegant adult soiree. They can also be a treat for one, a sweet pick-me-up on the way home from the office. And looking for a fun alternative to colossal wedding cake? A bunch of little cupcakes can make a big splash.

Here's a comprehensive guide to where to find the most delectable cupcakes in the Milwaukee area. If we've forgotten your favorite bakery, use the Talkback section to let us know.

Aggie's Cakes and Pastries
7328 W. Greenfield Ave., (414) 482-1288
aggiesbakery.com

After years as a Bay View bakery staple, Aggie's moved over to West Allis where it's continued conquering sweet tooths across the city with its full-size cakes. But customers who want to think smaller are also in luck. Aggie's flavors vary day by day, but what never changes is the quality – moist and substantial. The prices are hard to beat, too, with wedding cupcakes ranging from $1.25 for minis to $2.50 for larges.

Baked Custom Desserts
1101 E. Brady St., (414) 467-8848

bakedcustomdesserts.com
Peter Sciortino Bakery unfortunately no longer bakes cakes, but you can still thankfully find the tiny sweet treats inside the Brady Street staple thanks to Baked Custom Desserts. Originally founded in 2009 by Sciortino pastry chef Rachel Schmidbauer from a small home kitchen, Baked Custom Desserts eventually grew into its current kitchen in the Brady Street icon, crafting a variety of cupcake flavors from classic cakes to oddball combos like "the salty dog" and "el diablo rojo."

Blooming Lotus
2215 E. North Ave., (414) 212-8010
blbmke.com
For many people, cupcakes and other tasty pastries are delicacies that are out of reach due to health concerns. That's where Blooming Lotus comes in, baking up tasty treats in a kitchen that's grain-free, dairy-free, soy-free, peanut-free, egg-free and cane sugar-free, while also using certified organic ingredients where it can and baking with whole foods.

C. Adam's Bakery
400 N. Water St., (414) 271-1871
cadamsbakery.com
Tucked inside the bustling Milwaukee Public Market, C. Adam's Bakery cooks up a variety of layer cakes, custom cakes and cake bites – as well as a plethora of cupcakes of multiple flavors. They offer classic flavors, like chocolate and vanilla, as well as its fan favorite "Hugs and Kisses" cupcake and its daily rotating options.

cakeladydesigns.com

Owner Karen Smith is a master at cake decorating, and her elaborate wedding and special occasion creations are famous – but she can also do made-to-order cupcakes in every flavor and filling you could possibly imagine.

Canfora Bakery
1100 E. Oklahoma Ave., (414) 486-7747
canforabakeryinc.com
Milwaukeeans were concerned when news broke last year that Canfora was sold to new ownership, but thankfully, that's all that's changed about this Bay View bakery staple. Canfora still concocts its delicious cannoli and other Italian treats, as well as its beloved hot ham and rolls. And that's not even including its cakes and cupcakes, which the bakery can specially craft for important events and occasions – like, say, a wedding!

Classy Girl Cupcakes
825 N. Jefferson St., (414) 270-1877
95 N. Moorland Rd., Suite FC4, (262) 794-3323
classygirlcupcakes.com

The location is delicious (right next to Cathedral Square Park) and so are the cupcakes. They offer a rewards system for returning customers and delivery services – because aren't cupcakes better than flowers? Visit their cupcake boutique for all cupcake products, from T-shirts to Band-Aids.

Eat Cake!
4303 W. Vliet St., (414) 344-3119
eatcakemilwaukee.com

Eat Cake! is deservedly famous in Milwaukee for its crazy creative cake concoctions. Need a cake shaped like a hot dog? Or a beautifully grilled steak? Perhaps a car or a shoe? Eat Cake! can do it. But the bakery can also craft you a lovely and elegant wedding cake – as well as some cupcakes to match.

Gigi's Cupcakes
2751 N. Mayfair Rd., Wauwatosa, (414) 777-7465
330 W. Town Square Way, Oak Creek, (414) 574-5350
gigiscupcakesusa.com
Our favorites are the chocolate chip cookie dough and wedding cake, but there are dozens of other original flavors to choose from this nationwide chain, now with two locations in the Milwaukee area (as well as a shop in Madison). Join the Cupcake Lovers Rewards program and earn a point for every $1 and 50 points equal $5 back! You can even order your cupcakes online.

Honeypie Cafe
2643 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., (414) 489-7437
honeypiecafe.com

This Bay View brunch mecca may be most famous for starting the day off right, but they might be even better at ending your meal right – whether its with one of their signature pies to their delectable cupcakes, made fresh daily with locally-grown products. They're immense, mouth-watering and frosted an inch thick. It's a restaurant deserving of being named after a dessert.

It'z My Party Cakery
5300 W. Bluemound Rd., (414) 257-9777
itzmyparty.com
For five years, It'z My Party Cakery has built a strong audience in its Story Hill shop. For a brief moment, however, it seemed that legacy might be moving elsewhere, but at the last minute, thanks to customer support, It's My Party is staying put. And while there are still some changes coming to the bakery, such as moving to open-by-appointment and pick-up hours, what isn't is the shop's delicious, uniquely styled custom cakes and cupcakes.

Miss Cupcake
3801 N. Oakland Ave., (414) 810-3997
misscupcakebakery.com

Miss Cupcake's treats are available to go but you can always order some coffee and relax in the storefront's small, charming dining room. The red velvet cupcakes are a big hit, but we liked the peanut butter-flavored creations best. Miss Cupcake is known for boozing up their cupcakes, too, so look for champagne pear and peach bellini flavors.

Miss Molly's Cafe and Pastry Shop
9201 W. Center St., (414) 249-5665
missmollyscafe.com
While Miss Molly's Center Street spot makes for a warm and welcoming spot for a coffee, the real stars of the show here are the pies, pastries and, yes, the cakes – including seasonal cupcake offerings, a hazelnut chocolate cupcake and plenty of wedding cake and dessert display options.

National Bakery & Deli
17165 Bluemound Rd., Brookfield, (414) 800-7407

13820 W. Greenfield Ave., Brookfield, (262) 827-4097
5637 Broad St., Greendale (414) 423-4620
nationalbakery.com
It may be famous for paczki, but National Bakery also offers six-packs of yellow and chocolate-filled cupcakes. Why have one when you could have six?

Regina's Bay Bakery
423 E. Silver Spring Dr., (414) 332-5340
baybakery.com

This North Shore pastry dealer has changed ownership several times over the years, but it's still the place to go in the Bay if you've got a sweet tooth. Ample red velvet and chocolate cupcakes abound, and there's always sure to be a vanilla sprinkle one in stock as well – and the frosting is lighter than air.

Rich's House of Cakes
4353 S. 27th St., (414) 282-0713
richscakes.com/wordpress/
Four generations of family have made Rich's House of Cakes a beloved Milwaukee bakery for more than 50 years. And they can make cakes and cupcakes for all sorts of occasions, from birthdays to quinceneras and weddings.

Simma's

simmasbakery.com
Simma's generously frosted Black-Bottom cupcakes have a sweet secret: cheesecake filling! Famous for their wedding cakes, Simma's also makes cupcakes to order, but the Black-Bottom delicacies are available daily – and if you're lucky, some other flavors might be in the case, too.

Sweet Perfections Bake Shoppe
1501 Paramount Dr. Suite C, Waukesha, (262) 446-2253
sweetperfections.com
