Social Circle: Bugs or snow?
The "Social Circle" is a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors. Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in this column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.
A lot of Wisconsinites complain about the cold and snow, but given the choice, would we move to a warmer climate if we could? There are definitely trade offs– including that many places with higher average annual temperatures also have a larger population of bugs.
So, with that in mind, OnMilwaukee.com asked the Social Circle this week the question: snow or bugs? What about you? Which would you rather deal with?
Barbara Aho: "The gap."
Elaine Alred: "Both."
Spike Bandy: "Both I just love living on the Great Lakes, with all four seasons here to enjoy. Even with extreme cold in the winter or bugs and heat in the summer, all 'inconveniences' can be dealt with by dressing properly and a positive mind-set."
Sarah Berg: "Snow because at least you can go out and play. Bugs? No thanks!"
Heidi Calaway: "I just got back from Roatan. Even though the weather was glorious, I would have to say I prefer snow. Now if you were to ask me about sunshine, that is a different story. I don't care if it's -20 and sunny out, I am all good."
Rick Charlie: "Bugs, hands down."
Lori Fredrich: "I will always choose snow. Pest control requires chemicals. And heat equals sweat."
Kat Froelich: "Bed bugs care not for our changing seasons! I'll take sub-zero or hot/humid hell over those jerks!"
Jerry Grillo: "I do not want the bugs. This winter has not been a problem at all except for four or five days."
Susan Higgins: "Bugs, no question. Most folks here in the mid-South have regular contracts with pest control services, so it's no big deal."
Damien Jaques: "No bugs in my warm and humid winter home, but many cute lizards. The lizards eat the bugs."
Damien Jones: "There are always bugs. We have more spiders in the house in winter."
Geo Kiesow: "Snow, with bugs for ice fishing bait."
Young Kim: "Snow. Hot weather turns people into mouth breathers."
Thea Kovac: "Depends. Light snow, sun and above 25 degrees is far better than 90 degrees, 80 percent humidity and giant invasive bugs."
Erin Shea Linnane: "Snow, because it has the snuggle factor."
Denise Lubotsky: "At least I can play in the snow!"
Libby Merline: "Bugs! Those little guys are practically my coworkers."
Susan Million: "Bugs. That's what pest control and geckos are for."
Maria Holden Raboin: "No bugs in San Francisco."
Nina Schmidt: "Snow!"
Lori Schwefel: "Bugs."
Anna Stone: "Undecided. They both suck."
Suzanne Szydlowski: "Snow. Definitely snow. Crunchy bugs terrify me."
Monica Thomas: "The real question is: sharks or no sharks. So I live by the lake instead of the ocean."
William Zuback: "When I was younger it was bugs and warmth but as I get older I'm preferring the colder temps and snow."
