Theater preview: “The Watsons Go To Birmingham -- 1963”

First Stage Children's Theater presents "The Watsons Go To Birmingham -- 1963," a play based on the book by Christopher Paul Curtis.

The award-winning story details the events of a fateful summer for the Watson family who live in Flint, Mich. Concerned about the budding juvenile delinquent in their family, 10-year-old Kenny's parents decide it's time for a lengthy stay with Grandma in Birmingham, Ala. Hence, the family heads toward a moment in American history where the world seems to change before their eyes.

"The Watsons Go to Birmingham -- 1963" is entertaining and educational. This play is recommended for adults, teens and older children. The play runs Jan. 18-Feb. 15. Tickets range in price from $10.50 to $21.50.
