Milwaukee County Parks pools guide

Wisconsin winters steal all the attention, but the summers in Sconnie can be intense too, bringing the heat and humidity. So it's a good time to remind you that Milwaukee County Parks has a great selection of water-based recreational opportunities – including public pools – opening soon for the season.

Outdoor pools

Starting June 15 through Aug. 18, the Milwaukee County pools are open six days a week – from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, as well as assorted times during weekend afternoons and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on two weeknights for evening swim. All hours are weather permitting, and kids age 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.

Hoyt Park/Tosa Pool has different hours and rates. It also has an attached beer garden/restaurant called The Landing.

Prices range are $3 for ages 3-11 and $5 ages 12 and up for single visits, and $3 across the board for evening swim. (Children under 2 years old and younger are free in all cases.) A season pass for unlimited entry to the outdoor pools – plus Pelican Cave and reduced admission to Cool Waters and Schulz Aquatic Park – is $50 (ages 12 and up) and $30 (11 and under). A comprehensive annual pass valid at any indoor or outdoor pool for 13 months, plus reduced admission to Cool Waters and Schulz Aquatic Center, is $165 for ages 3-11, $260 for ages 12 to 59 and $205 for seniors aged 60-plus.

Water parks

Open through Labor Day weekend, the Milwaukee County water parks are open seven days a week (save for Pelican Cove, which is closed on Mondays and open through mid-August).

Admission for both Cool Waters and the David F. Schultz Aquatic Center costs $8 (ages 12-59) and $6.25 (ages 3-11 or 60-plus) while night swim, taking place Monday through Thursday after 6 p.m., is $5. Children 2 and younger are free. A "Splash and Slide" season pass for the two parks is $65 for an individual or $170 for a family of four, with $35 for each additional child. For Pelican Cove, single visit admission is $5 for ages 12 and up, $3 for children 3-11 and $3 across the board for evening swim on Mondays and Thursdays.   • Offers water slides, water obstacles and more
  • Monday-Friday: 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: Noon-5 p.m.
  • Night swim: Monday and Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.

Schulz Aquatic Center

  • Located in Lincoln Park at 1301 W. Hampton Ave., (414) 257-7230
  • Offers shallow pool area, multiple water slides, diving area and a lazy river
  • Monday-Friday: 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: Noon-5 p.m.
  • Night swim: Tuesday and Thursday, 6-8 p.m.
  • Tot time: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9-11 a.m.

Pelican Cove

  • Located in Kosciuszko Park at 2201 S. 7th St., (414) 384-2022
  • Offers water slides, interactive splash toys and more
  • Tuesday-Sunday: 12:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Night swim: Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Indoor pools

Open year-round, single-visit admission for Milwaukee County Parks indoor pools costs $4 (12 and up) and $3 (under 12). A 12-visit pass is $40 (12 and up) or $30 (11 and under), while a six-month pass is $137.50 (ages 12-59), $110 (60 and up) and $88 (11 and under). For a full-year pass, adults 12 and older cost $260, seniors 60 and older cost $205, and children 3 to 11 cost $165.

Splash pads and wading pools

Many Milwaukee County Parks feature splash pads, which are free and open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (save for the Carver and Wahl splash pads, which are open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., and the Washington Park location, which has the same hours as its deep-well pool).
