JEFFREY MARTIN + ANNA TIVEL + J.E. SUNDE- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24TH 8PM More Info $8 advance tickets available HERE / $10 at the door. Of Anna Tivel’s 2017 release, Small Believer, NPR’s Ann Powers said, “Singer-songwriters work with words in a similar way, and are often called poets. In truth, only a few deliver the deep insight and sense of the new that breaking through the predictable achieves. Anna Tivel is one.” Martin’s album One Go Around was released last October. In its review of the album, No Depression declared, “Portland singer-songwriter Jeffrey Martin has proven with his last few albums and his many shows that he truly possesses a gift for marrying Americana music and expertly penned words in an expressive way that paints a vivid picture of people, places, and events that are at once relatable and highly interesting.“ J.E. Sunde- "J.E. Sunde is one of the greatest indie-folk singer-songwriters around." -Daytrotter "J.E. Sunde’s music brings about the finest folk comparisons whether it’s classic or contemporary artists. With the charm of Van Morrison and the conviction of Frank Turner, J.E. Sunde is an undeniable folk force"- Chris Pizzolo, Play Too Much Watch Anna Tivel’s video for “Illinois” here and her Audiotree Live performance here. Stream Small Believer here. BRETT NEWSKI & THE NO TOMORROW
BRETT NEWSKI & THE NO TOMORROW | "LIFE UPSIDE DOWN" LP RELEASE SHOW- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26TH 7:00PM More Info Milwaukee Hometown album launch! Featuring Spatola on Drums! This stacked bill also featured Miles Nielsen & the Rusted Hearts (Rockford) + DIY punk hero Jonah Matranga (San Fran). $13 tickets available HERE STATEMENT FROM NEWSKI: Big news today pals. I am proud to announce my third studio album, Life Upside Down out Sept 7 worldwide via Backseat and Nomad Union. The past few years I've struggled hard with feelings of massive anxiety in my personal and professional life. It was that nervous energy that sparked the creation of these recordings. I hope these songs are evidence that anxiety/depression isn't all terrible and can actually serve as positive, motivational force. I wrote this album for the outsiders, introverts, and independent thinkers...what some would call the "non-cool crowd". These are my people. The ones who don't jump on bandwagons or care what their peers are wearing, watching or listening to. They like what they like, and while that may not be hip, it's something to be proud of. ::: "Loudest acoustic act ever." -Daytrotter "I like the sound and the way he is forcing the world to contend with him." -Brian Ritchie, Violent Femmes "Good proper Midwestern indie rock." -Matthew Logan Vasquez, Delta Spirit
THE RIGHT NOW WITH SP GUEST WILD SKIES
THE RIGHT NOW WITH SP GUEST WILD SKIES- FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND 8PM More Info $8 advance tickets click HERE / $10 at the door The Right Now's pop-meets-soul sound is more than a vehicle for Stefanie Berecz's captivating voice. The celebration of thoughtful, catchy songwriting and intricate arrangements evokes a subtle sophistication in the tradition of Quincy Jones’ 70s and 80s masterpieces. Since 2009 the band has toured much of the United States and released two acclaimed albums, racking up placements in television, national commercials, and the multi-million-selling video game Watch Dogs. The Right Now’s Chicago roots permeate their music and performances: breezy horn lines sit atop soul grooves old and new, all while Berecz elevates one audience after another with her “classic yet contemporary voice” (Philadelphia Inquirer). College radio stations nationwide put 2012’s Gets Over You on the CMJ charts, and critics nationwide have championed TRN as “the real deal” (Pittsburgh City Paper). The Right Now has opened for Fitz & The Tantrums, George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, Bettye LaVette, Lee Fields, and many others along the way. The newest album Starlight examines a complicated world through the eyes of the fighter, lover, philosopher, addict, mother. It covers musical ground as diverse as the city that spawned TRN: dance beat elation, synth-pop grandeur, intimate ballads, and gritty soul. Both on Starlight and in their acclaimed live shows, Berecz and The Right Now confront the darkness of modern times head on, utilizing their music as a beacon to navigate to safer ground. While Wild Skies has carved out their own, unique sound at the intersection of folk, rock & Americana, the band members have come from all different musical backgrounds, each of them bringing a different perspective to the collaboration. That diversity, at its core, is what helped Wild Skies forge their own path and distinctive sound. The Chicago based foursome came together through a series of Craigslist ads posted by Ohio transplant and singer/songwriter Aaron Lechlak while searching for band members to help with studio work in early 2014. Teaming up with opera trained singer Kristine Sorum-Williams, jazz bassist Tommy Good, and folk drummer Andy Kearns, what began as a solo project evolved into a three-part harmonic melting pot of folk-rock.
