Tribeca Gallery Cafe & Books provided a bright cheerful spot to work.

Tribeca Gallery Cafe & Books to close at the end of April

Tribeca Gallery Café & Books, 1318 S. 1st St., has announced that it will close its doors at the end of April.

The bright spacious cafe, owned by Julie Crnkovich of Tribeca GalleryCafe & Books in Watertown, opened last December. In fact, it was among the first tenants for the newly minted Freshwater Plaza, which now houses numerous businesses, including Momo Mee.

It was also a favorite haunt for a number of us at OnMilwaukee (including myself).

"I will miss all the people who have shown Tribeca so much kindness," says Crnkovich. "The Walker's Point neighborhood has been very supportive of my coffee shop bookstore. I would love to stay, but unfortunately am struggling financially to support the existing structure and business flow.

Crnkovich says she'd hoped to find a partner or investor who might be interested in helping her out with the cafe, but time has begun to run short.

"Right now, our plan is to close by the end of the month," she adds. "And then I will continue to work at my Watertown Cafe."

That means there's still time to stop in, thank Crnkovich for giving Milwaukee a go, and enjoy one last latte or Pilcrow Sweet & Creamy Nitro Cold Brew.

While you're there, pick up a book or two, including these gems.
