The Dill: ideal for pickle freaks.

Eat this now: Transfer's "The Dill" pizza

Milwaukee, you have through Saturday to try The Dill – aka "pickle pizza"; aka the best pizza on the planet – at Transfer, 101 W. Mitchell St.

Unless, of course, you think pickles are total trash – Lucifer's cucumbers – in which case, just get the Bob's Special and call it a day. But if you're a person with a penchant for pickles, this is your pie.

The most appealing aspect of The Dill is that it packs a pickle punch with plenty of flavor and crunch, but it also complements – rather than overpowers – the other flavors. A novelty pickle pizza might do this, but Transfer's version finds the pickilicious sweet spot without being excessive.

The Dill is Transfer's February Special and it comes topped with garlic sauce, bacon, mozzarella cheese, dill pickles and fresh dill. The medium-thickness, firm-yet-chewy crust is also available gluten-free.

The cost is $12 for a small; $19 for large. We recommend the large because the leftovers make a marvelous midnight snack or pairs well cold and with hot coffee the next morning.

Brothers John and Russell Rossetto opened Transfer Pizzeria in 2008. The building's previous tenants included a George Webb, another diner called Scrambled Ed's and, originally, Transfer Pharmacy for which the pizzeria's name pays homage. Technically in the Clock Tower Acres neighborhood, Walker's Point also claims the beloved bar and eatery as its own.

But history aside, the bottom line is this: if you dig dills, stop in this week before this 'za disappears for a few seasons.
