Celebrate irrational numbers: Pi Day specials in Milwaukee

It's time for pie lovers and math nerds to unite. Pi Day is coming up (as it does each year) on Thursday, March 14. And venues across the city are getting ready.

Here are some fun ways to wholeheartedly celebrate both irrational numbers and (in most cases) your very rational love for delicious pie.

It's Pi Day all days at Batches, where slices of delicious housemade pie will be sold for $3.14 and whole pies for $25 (based on availability). The menu includes the following pies: peanut butter cup, s'mores, banoffee, banana cream, lemon meringue, bourbon pecan, Dutch apple (vegan), peach cobbler (gluten-free) and individually sized chicken pot pies.

Enjoy the world's largest pizza party at Blaze Pizza, which will be serving up custom-built pizzas for just $3.14 each for the sixth year running. Without science, there would be no pie. In honor of that fact, the Milwaukee Area Science Advocates are teaming up with Honeypie Cafe to offer a little of both. Order up delicious pie between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and listen as folks from MASA share fun pie science facts and information about what they do.

Lakefront will be celebrating Pi Day with the "Great Brewery Kitchen Bake Off." During the event – which takes place between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Lakefront chefs will compete for the chance to be crowned '2019 Pi Day Baker of the Year' About 10 pies will be available for sale and the first pie to sell out wins. Eat your pie and support a cause at the same time. On March 14 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., you can take part in Tre Rivali's pie sale, during which 100% of all proceeds will be donated to "Chefs Cycle: No Kid Hungry," an endurance event that raises money to end child hunger in America. Chef Heather Terhune's pies will include s'mores, dark chocolate cream pie, strawberry-rhubarb, blueberry crumb, lemon ice box. They will be priced at $3.14 per slice, plus tax. [More info]
