Brunch is never boring at The Noble.

Monday Funday: The Noble's brunch draws the service industry and more

For many Milwaukeeans, Monday mornings are the beginning of a five-day work week. The ol' return to the rat race. The reason why coffee was invented.

But for many in the service industry, Monday marks the end of their busy work time: weekends. Thus, Mondays are like the Saturdays or Sundays of the service world and a time to relax, whoop it up and/or indulge.

Five years ago, David Kressin and April Woelfel started offering a special service industry brunch on Mondays from 11 a.m. until the last seating at 2:45 p.m. (The public is also invited.) Some weeks, customers start lining up 15-30 minutes before the doors to get a seat in the cozy, coveted eatery.

According to Kressin, they can serve as many as 130 people during the timeframe. Sometimes people will wait 30 minutes or more for a table, but that's what pre-brunch cocktails are for.

"Even during blizzard mornings we'll play Cards Against Humanity with 30 or more people who braced the snow," says Kressin.

Rave reviews, a creative and ever-changing menu and strong word of mouth have made the Noble's service industry brunch a huge event.

Kressin and Woelfel post their menu updates everyday on Facebook, including for the Monday brunch. Steak and eggs, baked eggs and biscuits and gravy are some of the most popular brunch dishes.

"Our menu and brunch features are never the same," says Kressin.

Nora Graveline is a server during the Monday brunch and says it's her favorite shift of the week. "It's loud, crazy, lots of fun and everyone always has a great time," she says. "Also, since we're such a small restaurant we're all really good at working as a team and it makes coming to work every Monday morning enjoyable."

Kressin says its nice to break up the dinner rushes they usually experience with a busy but more casual brunch Monday.

"We have a lot of fun with brunch because it is such a different, more casual beast than dinner service," he says. "Plus we have a blast coming up with ridiculous themes, garnishes and music playlists. I'm glad people enjoy it as much as we do."

Randy Beck works at Fixture Pizza and The Standard and is a regular at The Noble's Monday brunch. He sums up his favorite aspects of the event in one sentence.

"Cheesy hash, ginger brandy shots, ever-changing menu, party atmosphere, impeccable service and also CHEESY HASH," says Beck.
