My go-to Milwaukee wings joints
Season's eatings! The weather may be getting colder, but Dining Month on OnMilwaukee is just cooking up, dishing out your winning picks in this year's Best of Dining poll. Dining Month is brought to you by Fein Brothers, your premier food service equipment and supply dealer in Wisconsin since 1929. Congratulations to all of the winners, and happy eating for all those who voted!
Lately, I've had an insatiable yen for wings. While I'm no connoisseur, I know what I like, and as I slowly eat my way through Milwaukee's countless wings options, I'm finding everything from the good, the great and the blah.
While I make no claims that these are the best (though I sure like 'em) here are my go-to wings places in town. Of course, there are loads of other great places, too – like TomKen's and Points East – but I don't get to those as often.
So, in no particular order:
I love Garibaldi's dry (not sauced) wings, which are flavorful, full of meat and nicely spiced. Some say they're a copy of Points East wings, but while there's similarity, I don't think they're the same.
On the other end of the spectrum are the saucy wings at McGinn's on Bluemound Road. Super meaty, these wings (they're 50 cents some nights!) are doused in a variety of sauces, my favorites being the original Buffalo and the super-sweet maple bourbon.
At the Brat House you can choose from BBQ, hot BBQ, house buffalo, tiger sauce, garlic teriyaki or parmesan cayenne dry rub. The wings are wet, but not drenched, in a sauce that have a bit of tang, but aren't too hot. The chicken is not only juicy but super, super meaty. At some places 10 scrawny wings won't do the trick, but here 10 is a pretty satisfying meal.
I generally say I'm not into hot foods but then I order the spicy gems here at Leff's (the ones pictured above are actually citrus garlic) – except that weird time when I stopped in a couple years ago and they were, gasp!, out of wings – and I love them and can't wait to come back for me.

Well, Packy's Pub was in my top 3 (along with Points East and Club Garibaldi), but who knows at this point what Bar Rescue is going to do to their menu! (My bet is the wings there will still be awesome, regardless of the new furniture and paint on the walls - go check them out!)
