Cluck yeah, Lakefront is hosting a saucy hot wings challenge ... do you dare?
Fish fry? Sure.
Malty, barrel-aged liquid gold? You betcha.
But wings? Nope, not something you'll find at Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St.
Except, that is, on National Hot Sauce Day.
In honor of this joyous national hotliday, Lakefront is dishing up wings with five different Buffalo sauces and hosting its debut Hot Wing Challenge, on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Lakefront's kitchen, which has nabbed the Beat Heat category title two years in a row in WMSE's Rockabilly Chili event has cooked up an especially flaming "Sign This Waiver" hot sauce and anyone who can finish five wings doused in this five-alarm house fire of a sauce in five minutes will earn free beer and swag.
Did I mention that you'll take the challenge on the Beer Hall stage where you'll be hit with a quintet of rapid-fire trivia questions? Get at least three right and you'll earn the right to try your hand – or your taste buds – at those five flaming-hot wings.
You don't have to try and burn yourself alive onstage, however, to enjoy the five new sauces – available on their own or as a flight that you can opt to pair with five beers. These are the sauces and the paired brews:
- Peach BBQ paired with the Proper Porter
- Verde Sauce paired with New Grist Gluten-free Gose
- Buffalo Sauce paired with Lakefront LagerKveik IPA with Mango and Guava
- Asian Ginger paired with the New Grist Gluten-free Pilsner
If meat's not your thing, you can substitute vegan breaded cauliflower, but those, while surely tasty, ain't wings any more than "boneless" tenders are. Just sayin'.
