Eat this now: Churros at Movida
Movida is a great place for Spanish tapas and the perfect place for a romantic night out (or just a good time with friends and family). The restaurant – only open for dinner but also open late-night, representative of many traditional Spanish diners – has elegant lighting and modern, rustic and antique decor.
The menu is a little on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for with delicious delicacies like blistered shishitos, mussels and clams, garlic shrimp, leek croquetas and empanada gallega. You can also snag a lot of great deals on drinks during Movida's happy hour, which I was lucky to catch.
Movida also has a small but delectable dessert menu, including chocolate cake, cheesecake and churros. I tried the churros, which I first heard about when the restaurant first started serving them – and have been waiting to try ever since.
The "churro shop" was added to the restaurant in 2016, a figurative shop that allows customers to order churros to go. They can be ordered online and delivered through Grub Hub, or called in to the restaurant and picked up.
The churros are fried in the traditional shape and size, and served warm, with a soft center and rolled in lots of cinnamon and sugar. After tasting them, they were the perfect hardness overall; not too soft and not too crispy. Then choose a sauce to dip them in: dulce de leche, chocolate or the seasonal sauce, which is lemon curd right now. I dipped mine in chocolate, creating the perfect combination of some of my favorite flavors, a frenzy of sweetness. I'm sure they're just as delicious with the dulce de leche or lemon curd dipping sauce.
I paired this dessert with a white wine sangria, which came with a skewered strawberry and orange peel on top. The strawberry was a great way to use the leftover chocolate dipping sauce.
The restaurant is open every day from 4 until 10 p.m., except Friday and Saturday, when hours go until 11 p.m.
