Milwaukee's best frozen treats, 2019

It's time for Dining Month, presented by Deer District and its spooky Halloween-themed alter ego, Fear District. Throughout the month of October, we'll be serving up fun and fascinating content about all things food. The signature dish, however, is our 2019 Best of Dining poll, who's winners we will dish out all month long. Get hungry, Milwaukee!

Kopp's

Not only did Kopp's win the top spot for best Milwaukee Institution, but the Milwaukee favorite was also voted No. 1 for the best frozen treats!

Famous around the area for great fast food, Kopp's offers a different flavor of the day for custard. From red raspberry to mint chip to macadamia nut, Kopp's keeps the creamy, cold treat varied every day. Get your custard plain in a dish, choose from the sundae menu, or get a malt, shake or float.

Meanwhile, the OnMilwaukee editorial staff gave a shout-out to Milwaukee's oldest custard stand, Gilles, opened in 1938. Dining writer Lori Fredrich gave a nod to – no yolk! – Scratch Ice Cream.

Runners-up:
2. Purple Door Ice Cream
3. Leon's
4. Scratch Ice Cream
5. Gilles

OnMilwaukee editors' pick: Gilles

Lori Fredrich's pick: Scratch Ice Cream
